Playa Campelo - Poio

This is a local waterfront beach rather than a polished resort strand. The harbour activity gives Campelo a practical, lived-in atmosphere, and the sand is best suited to a short visit, a rest beside the ria or bathing when conditions are suitable.

The beach can feel busy when harbour users, residents and summer visitors share the same compact area. At quieter times it offers an interesting place to watch boats, tides and the changing light across the estuary. Its appeal lies in being part of Campelo, not separated from it.

Campelo is a short sandy beach beside one of Poio's principal working harbours. It lies in a semiurban setting on the northern side of the Ria de Pontevedra, where fishing, shellfish gathering and everyday village life remain visible from the shore.

Campelo harbour is the defining anchor. The village has long been connected with fishing and shellfish work, and the quay remains an important local centre. Boats, nets and port structures give the beach a stronger maritime identity than many nearby urban sands.

Poio's wider attractions are close. The historic village of Combarro lies west along the coast, while Pontevedra city is reached to the east. The monastery of San Xoan de Poio stands inland and adds another layer to the municipality's cultural landscape.

Campelo beach is about 75 metres long and sits directly beside the harbour. Fine sand occupies a small semiurban opening, with roads, buildings and port infrastructure close behind.

The inner-ria setting creates a broad horizontal view towards Marin and Tambo Island, although the foreground is shaped by the working waterfront. Tides expose and cover a large part of the intertidal margin, so the beach can look very different over the course of a day.

Lower water reveals more sand and mudflat textures around the harbour edges, while higher tide makes the beach more compact. Wind and boat movement can disturb the surface even when the estuary appears calm. Campelo rewards visitors who are interested in the real coastal life of Poio, where beach, harbour and shellfish waters form one connected landscape.
