Playa Castillo de Banos

Castillo de Banos feels intimate, simple and residential. The beach is narrow, so visitors remain close to the houses, campsite and principal access points. It suits people seeking a peaceful swim, shore fishing or a short period beside the sea rather than extensive sports and resort entertainment.

The surface consists mainly of gravel, rounded stones and darker coastal material. Footwear is useful, especially near the waterline, and the available space may change after periods of rough weather. Services are limited compared with La Mamola, reinforcing the beach's small-scale character and making preparation important for visitors planning more than a brief stop.

Playa Castillo de Banos is a narrow stony beach beside the small coastal settlement of the same name in Polopos municipality. Its compact shore, immediate village access and eighteenth-century hornabeque create a quiet local stop between La Mamola and the beaches of Rubite.

The Hornabeque de Castillo de Banos is the defining landmark. Built in the eighteenth century for coastal defence, the fortified artillery position watched the route along the Mediterranean and protected access towards the Alpujarras. Its solid walls remain unusually close to the modern settlement and beach.

Polopos lies high inland, while La Mamola provides the nearest larger collection of restaurants and beach services. The contrast between mountain villages and tiny coastal settlements is characteristic of this part of Granada.

A slim shore of stones and gravel lies between the sea and low village buildings. Behind them, the land rises sharply into the southern slopes of the Contraviesa, leaving almost no broad coastal plain.

The old road and modern transport route follow the same narrow corridor between rock and water. Eastward lies La Mamola; westward, Casarones and El Lance continue towards Castell de Ferro. Castillo de Banos is visually compact, but the hornabeque, steep terrain and open sea give the beach a clear identity that extends well beyond its small dimensions. The nearby campsite adds seasonal activity without changing the beach's quiet village character.
