Playa la Mamola

La Mamola is calm, sociable and closely tied to village life. Families use the protected-looking sections between the breakwaters, anglers favour the projecting structures and walkers follow the promenade past restaurants and everyday services. The beach is long enough for activity to spread across several separate arcs, each with slightly different access, space and views along the village waterfront.

Seasonal lifeguards, showers and toilets support a conventional beach day. The eight breakwaters give the shoreline its unusual scalloped shape and reduce the sense of one uninterrupted open frontage. Conditions still vary with wind and local swell, but the layout creates a more contained atmosphere than neighbouring roadside beaches.

Playa La Mamola fronts the fishing village of La Mamola in the municipality of Polopos, with part of the wider beach extending towards Sorvilan. Its long dark sandy shore, promenade and distinctive series of breakwaters make it one of the most practical family beaches on the eastern Costa Tropical.

La Mamola is a traditional coastal settlement beneath the mountain municipality of Polopos. Fishing remains part of its identity, while restaurants along the promenade serve grilled fish, squid, rice and local produce from the Contraviesa slopes and nearby agricultural areas.

The Torre del Cautor stands on high ground near the coast as part of the historic watch system. Its position above the road and sea reflects the centuries when towers monitored shipping and warned settlements of danger.

Dark sand and small gravel form a long urban shoreline between the Mediterranean and steep mountain slopes. The village occupies a narrow strip beside the coast, with the road and rising terrain limiting development inland.

Breakwaters divide the waterline into recognisable sections, while palms and low buildings follow the promenade. Eastward, the coast leads towards Melicena and Sorvilan; westward, Castillo de Banos and Rubite lie along the same narrow corridor. La Mamola's character is created by this tight arrangement of village, mountain, promenade and segmented beach.
