Playa la Charca

La Charca is lively, family-oriented and designed for long days beside the sea. Visitors spread across a broad frontage, while walkers and cyclists use the promenade and beach restaurants remain close to the main access points. Summer afternoons are busy, but the length of the beach allows quieter positions farther from the central entrances.

The coarse dark surface is firmer than fine pale sand. Seasonal lifeguards, accessible routes and beach facilities support a wide range of visitors, while short Mediterranean waves can vary with wind. Evening is especially sociable as people move from the shore to the promenade and restaurants, with the illuminated castle remaining visible above the town.

Playa La Charca is Salobrena's largest and most urban beach, extending east of the Penon along the seafront towards Salomar. Its wide dark sand-and-gravel shore, promenade, restaurants and views of the castle make it the practical centre of summer beach life in the municipality.

Salobrena's white old town and Moorish castle dominate the inland view. The fortress occupies a rocky hill above the agricultural plain and has served as a defensive stronghold, royal residence and prison during different periods of its long history.

Beachfront chiringuitos serve fried fish, grilled seafood, rice and paella. Subtropical fruit from the surrounding plain and valleys appears alongside this maritime cooking, reflecting the close relationship between the town's coast and farmland.

A broad strip of dark sand, gravel and small stones stretches beneath a developed promenade. The Penon and hilltop castle define the western view, while low urban development and cultivated land continue east towards Salomar.

Behind the beach, the flat plain contrasts sharply with the white town rising on its isolated hill. The Mediterranean remains open to the south, with broad evening light across the water. La Charca is fully serviced and urban in use, yet the castle, Penon and green agricultural surroundings give it an unmistakably Salobrena identity. Accessible routes are concentrated near the principal seafront entrances.
