Playa la Guardia

La Guardia is relaxed, sociable and rooted in everyday coastal life. Families and regular visitors gather near the principal accesses, while walkers follow the waterline towards the Penon or the quieter western end. The beach can be lively around its restaurants but rarely feels like a formal hotel resort.

The surface is coarse, with dark sand, gravel and rounded stones. Footwear can be useful near the water, and local wind or short waves may change the shoreline quickly. The neighbourhood setting keeps food and services close, making the beach practical for a long lunch and an unhurried afternoon. The shoreline also remains popular for evening walks after restaurant activity begins to build.

Playa La Guardia lies west of the Penon de Salobrena, directly beside the traditional fishing neighbourhood that shares its name. Its long dark sand-and-gravel shore, beach restaurants and view of Salobrena's castle create a local waterfront with more village character than the broader urban beach of La Charca.

La Guardia is historically associated with Salobrena's fishing community. Chiringuitos and local restaurants serve fried fish, grilled seafood, rice and simple dishes tied to the day's catch. This maritime identity remains distinct from the agricultural plain that surrounds the wider town.

Above the coast, the Moorish castle crowns Salobrena's white hilltop settlement. Its walls and towers provide the dominant landmark, while the Penon separates La Guardia visually from the beaches on the eastern side.

Dark sand and gravel run below low houses, restaurants and cultivated ground. The steep white town and castle rise inland, producing one of the Costa Tropical's clearest combinations of beach, historic hill settlement and fertile plain.

Westward, the coast becomes quieter towards small coves and agricultural land. Eastward, the Penon leads around to La Charca and Salomar. La Guardia's landscape feels layered but coherent: fishing neighbourhood at water level, white town above and subtropical cultivation spreading across the plain behind. Small fishing traditions remain visible around the neighbourhood.
