About Playa Pozuelo
Pozuelo feels contained and family-oriented. The shore is only a little over two hundred metres long, so visitors remain close to the main access, restaurants and nearby accommodation. It can feel busy during summer, but its small scale also makes the beach straightforward to navigate.
The water is often described locally as calm and clear, attracting snorkellers and people trying simple water activities. The mixed surface is firmer and coarser than fine sand, so footwear can be useful near the waterline. Parking is limited compared with larger urban beaches.

The Setting
Playa Pozuelo is a narrow urban beach in Almunecar's Taramay area, positioned between Velilla and Calabajio. Its dark sand, gravel and rounded stones, calm-looking water and compact services make it a convenient small beach rather than a broad resort frontage.
At the Velilla end, the Fortin de Velilla provides the clearest historical feature. The small defensive structure recalls the coastal observation system used to protect settlements and shipping along this exposed Mediterranean route.
Towards Calabajio, the Parque del Mediterraneo offers paths and planting across a large public green space. Almunecar's wider identity is rooted in more than three thousand years of Phoenician, Roman, Islamic and Christian history, while local food combines fish with fruit and vegetables grown in the subtropical valleys.
Pozuelo measures about 226 metres long and roughly thirty metres wide. Dark sand, gravel, bolos and callaos form the shore, with development and road access close behind.
The beach sits within a sequence of compact bays and urban sections along eastern Almunecar. Velilla opens westward, while Calabajio and Cabria lead east towards less developed coastal ground. Pozuelo's landscape is modest but varied: dark shore, clear water, nearby fortification and planted parkland all fit within a short section of the Costa Tropical. Nearby Taramay remains residential rather than dominated by a single hotel strip. The narrow shape means sea conditions and seasonal sand movement can noticeably alter the available room from week to week.
