Playa Cabria

Cabria feels compact, calm and comparatively low-key. Its moderate visitor numbers and short frontage create a more intimate experience than Velilla or Puerta del Mar, while nearby food services make the beach practical for several hours by the water.

The shore is formed from coarse dark sand and gravel rather than soft fine sand. Municipal information describes generally calm bathing conditions, although the cove remains open to local wind and wave changes. There is no full urban promenade, and access is simpler than at Almunecar's main town beaches.

Playa de Cabria is a small beach in the less urbanised Taramay section of Almunecar, between Calabajio, Curumbico and Barranco de Enmedio. It is a distinct cove from neighbouring Curumbico, separated by rocky ground and its own access.

The Torre de Cabria stands on nearby high ground and forms part of the historic coastal watch system. Its position reflects the need to observe small bays and approaches along a coastline that once faced piracy and raiding.

Almunecar's main historic centre lies west, while the Taramay area provides the nearest residential services. Restaurants around the eastern beaches serve grilled fish, rice and local produce, including fruit grown in the subtropical valleys behind the coast.

Cabria is approximately 154 metres long and about thirty metres wide. Coarse gravel and dark material occupy a small bay backed by lower development than the central urban beaches.

Neighbouring Calabajio, Curumbico and Barranco de Enmedio form a sequence of separate coves divided by low headlands and rocky ground. The hills rise close behind, giving the shoreline a more natural frame despite nearby roads and housing. Cabria's appeal lies in its scale and position: a distinct small beach within a chain of quieter eastern coves, not an interchangeable name for Curumbico. Cabria's food businesses are close enough for refreshments but do not form a continuous promenade. The cove's moderate use and coarse surface give it a more local rhythm than the large serviced beaches farther west.
