About Playa Calas del Este

The Vibe

The atmosphere is relaxed and local. Visitors choose among several small bathing pockets, with sandy areas suiting families and rockier margins attracting careful snorkellers when the water is calm. Because each cove is compact, the nearest access points can feel busy even when the wider coastline remains peaceful.

The rocky layout requires attention. Depth, footing and wave action differ from one section to another, and boat channels may be marked near residential accesses. Swimmers should use the recognised entry points, follow flags and avoid jumping from rocks whose underwater depth is unknown.

The Setting

About

Calas del Este form Santa Pola's eastern urban bathing area, a sequence of small sandy coves and rocky sections between Varadero and the natural coast of the cape. A seafront promenade, residential surroundings and views towards Tabarca give the area a quieter, more fragmented character than the town's long western beaches.

The Local Anchor

Santa Pola del Este is the immediate neighbourhood, developed along the lower slopes of the cape. Its promenade links homes, viewpoints and coves while keeping the town centre within easy reach to the west. Varadero provides the nearest broad sandy alternative.

Above the coast stands Torre de Escaletes, a sixteenth-century watchtower built as part of the defensive system protecting the shoreline and Tabarca approaches. The tower is not on the beach itself, but it gives the eastern district a strong historical landmark and rewards walkers with wider coastal views.

The Landscape

The shoreline alternates between narrow sand, pebbles and pale rock. Low points divide the water into small inlets, while houses and Mediterranean vegetation rise behind the promenade. The coast faces Tabarca, which can appear clearly across the sea in good visibility.

Unlike Gran Playa or Tamarit, there is no continuous expanse of sand. The appeal lies in variety: a short cove for bathing, a rocky edge for observing marine life and a promenade for moving between them. Calas del Este combine urban convenience with the first signs of the rugged Cabo de Santa Pola landscape farther east.
