Playa de la Ermita

The beach feels open and lightly developed, with the cape and chapel providing a stronger presence than seafront buildings. Visitors come for the landscape, a quiet swim when conditions allow and the sense of being beyond the main resort frontage. The mixed shore is less suited to conventional sand games than Levante or Gran Playa.

Exposure around the cape can produce moderate waves and an uneven entry over stone. Beach shoes are useful, while swimming and snorkelling should be limited to calm conditions and guided by any local warnings. The beach's natural appearance should not be mistaken for guaranteed solitude or easy water.

Playa de la Ermita is a natural beach beneath Cabo de Santa Pola, opposite the small chapel of the Virgen del Rosario and at the edge of the municipality. Dark sand, stones and rock give it a wilder texture than Santa Pola's broad urban beaches.

The Ermita de la Virgen del Rosario stands directly opposite the beach and gives the place its name. Behind the chapel, the Cueva de las Aranas, also known as the Cova dels Frares, contains a prehistoric painting of a horse associated with the rock art of the Mediterranean Arc.

This cultural detail links the small beach with a much longer human history on Cabo de Santa Pola. The shoreline also marks the limit of the Santa Pola municipal area, making the cove both a landscape destination and a geographical endpoint.

The shore lies beneath the rocky cape, with dark sand and pebbles arranged between exposed rock. Low cliffs and Mediterranean scrub frame the beach, while the chapel provides a modest built landmark rather than an urban backdrop.

Views extend across open water from a coast shaped by wind and erosion. The beach forms part of the Calas del Cabo sequence, where small inlets replace the long sandy strands closer to town. Playa de la Ermita is memorable for this meeting of elements: chapel, prehistoric cave, rugged shore and the final reach of Santa Pola beneath its prominent headland.
