Playa Calas del Cuartel

The coves feel informal and lightly developed. People arrive for snorkelling, shore fishing, dog walking and short swims rather than for a conventional resort day with a continuous line of services. Because the bathing spaces are divided by rock, each section can have a slightly different balance of shelter, access and room.

Visitors should inspect the shore before settling. Rock can continue beneath the water, and the cape is exposed to changing wind and wave action. Caleta dels Gossets has its own rules for responsible dog use, while the other coves should not be treated as extensions of the dog beach. Water, sun protection and suitable footwear are sensible essentials.

Calas del Cuartel are a sequence of natural coves beneath the Cabo de Santa Pola, formed from dark sand, rock and narrow bathing pockets. They offer a more rugged alternative to the town's urban beaches and include Caleta dels Gossets, Santa Pola's designated dog-friendly beach.

The coves take their name from the old coastal barracks area on this side of the cape. Today the broader landmark is the Cabo de Santa Pola itself, a protected headland whose lighthouse, fossil-reef geology and Mediterranean vegetation define the eastern edge of the municipality.

Caleta dels Gossets gives the area a distinctive modern role. It allows dogs on a clearly identified section of coast, helping separate that use from Santa Pola's main family beaches. Visitors should keep within the signed zone and follow local hygiene and control requirements.

Low rocky points divide the coastline into small, irregular openings. Dark sand and stones occupy the flatter sections, while scrub-covered ground rises behind them towards the cape. The scenery is natural-looking without being remote, as road access and scattered development remain within reach.

Across the water, the view can extend towards Tabarca and the open Mediterranean. The coves have none of the broad symmetry of Gran Playa or Playa Lisa; their appeal lies in broken shoreline, rock pools and a close relationship with the cape. They suit visitors prepared for simpler facilities and more variable footing in exchange for a less urban atmosphere.
