About Playa Canelinas
The atmosphere is sociable and easygoing. Families, regular swimmers and people staying in Portonovo share a beach that feels more like part of the neighbourhood than a separate coastal destination. The short shoreline fills quickly on warm summer days, yet its scale also creates a friendly, contained mood.
Canelinas suits a few relaxed hours by the water, an early swim or a stop between a meal and an evening walk. The town remains visible behind the sand, so this is not the place for solitude. Its strength is convenience combined with a genuine maritime setting.

The Setting
Canelinas is a compact urban beach in Portonovo, set directly into the town's waterfront. Its fine sand extends for about 100 metres, with sheltered water and streets, cafes and harbour life close at hand. It is a practical choice for visitors who want a swim without leaving the centre of the resort.
Portonovo's fishing harbour is the defining local anchor. Working boats, the marina and seafood restaurants keep the town connected to the sea, while the streets around the beach lead quickly into the busiest part of the waterfront.
A short walk west reaches Canelas, where the shore becomes broader and more open. Eastward, the coast turns towards Baltar and the route linking Portonovo with Sanxenxo. Canelinas sits neatly between these two larger beach experiences, making it useful for visitors exploring the seafront on foot.
The beach is almost straight, with fine sand and a sheltered position inside the Ria de Pontevedra. Built edges and low rock contain the strand, while the nearby harbour influences both the view and the movement of small craft.
Tide changes the amount of dry sand noticeably. At lower water the beach gains breathing room; at higher water it becomes a narrow urban strip. The enclosed setting usually softens Atlantic swell, although wind, boat wash and local conditions can still disturb the surface.
Looking seaward, the ria opens beyond Portonovo towards wooded headlands and distant islands. Looking back, the beach is unmistakably part of town. That close meeting of sand, harbour and everyday life is what gives Canelinas its identity.
