About Playa Cala Giverola
Swimmers share the bay with kayaks, small craft and excursion boats, so awareness beyond the immediate bathing area is important.
The water can be inviting for snorkelling, particularly around the rocky sides when the sea is calm. The seabed includes both sand and rock, and depth increases away from the inner beach. Families may enjoy the sheltered shape of the cove, but children still need close supervision and everyone should follow marked bathing zones.

The Setting
Cala Giverola is a compact, attractive cove north of Tossa de Mar, where coarse sand and clear water sit between pine-covered cliffs. It feels secluded on arrival, yet it is not an untouched wilderness: nearby holiday accommodation, seasonal services and regular boat traffic give the beach an organised, active character during summer.
Giverola lies several kilometres from central Tossa on the scenic road towards Sant Feliu de Guixols. Road access descends from the wooded hills, while coastal excursion boats can also call at the cove in season. This separation from town gives the beach a getaway quality without removing every convenience.
Tossa de Mar remains the cultural anchor. Its Vila Vella walls, fishing heritage and compact old streets provide a marked contrast to the resort facilities around Giverola. Visitors combining both places experience two sides of the municipality: the historic bay of Tossa and the more self-contained coves scattered along its northern coast.
The cove is enclosed by steep slopes of pine, scrub and exposed rock. One side is broader, while the eastern end narrows towards a rock passage leading to the tiny Raco de Llevant de Giverola. This feature adds visual interest but should be approached carefully when waves are running through the rocks.
Boats often gather in the bay, underlining how naturally protected it appears from the sea. Beyond the developed pocket behind the beach, the wider coast remains strongly sculpted, with headlands, small inlets and wooded ridges. Giverola's appeal comes from this balance: accessible enough for a full beach day, yet surrounded by unmistakably rugged Costa Brava scenery.
