Playa de la Punta del Riu

The beach feels open and easy to use, with enough width for games, walking and relaxed sunbathing. Its position beside the harbour adds sailing activity to the view, while the river mouth gives the northern edge a softer, more natural boundary. Families and older visitors value the generally gentle entry in settled conditions, especially during quieter morning hours.

Even a sheltered-looking urban beach can change with wind, current or river flow, so flags and marked zones should guide swimming. The marina separates Punta del Riu from L'Arenal, and visitors should not cross navigation channels outside designated routes.

Platja de la Punta del Riu occupies the northern side of L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, between the marina and the mouth of the Llastres River. Fine golden sand, shallow water and an urban setting make it a practical family beach rather than a remote river-mouth landscape.

The town's name recalls a fortified hospital established in the fourteenth century by the Infante Pere. The surviving Gothic structure, with its walls, arches and towers, stands inland from the seafront and gives the modern resort a historical centre.

The marina is the immediate local landmark. It forms a clear southern edge to Punta del Riu and places restaurants, sailing and harbour walks close to the sand. On the opposite side of the port, L'Arenal begins as a much longer beach with a different balance of urban and natural sections.

The shore lies between two strong lines: marina walls to the south and the Llastres river mouth to the north. A bridge and paths around the estuary connect the coastal neighbourhoods, while reeds and river vegetation soften the transition into the Mediterranean.

There are no cliffs enclosing the beach. The view is broad and horizontal, shaped by pale sand, harbour masts, the river channel and low urban development. Punta del Riu is best understood as a meeting place of town, port, river and sea, with each element visible from the waterline.
