About Playa de l'Arenal

The Vibe

Near the port, the atmosphere is practical and family-focused. The promenade, accommodation and seasonal beach facilities make it easy to spend a full day here, while the generally shallow entry suits cautious paddling and swimming when flags permit. Kayaks, paddleboards and other small craft can add activity around marked launch areas.

Walking south changes the experience. The built frontage thins, conversations become less constant and the beach feels more connected to the coastal habitat behind it. This makes L'Arenal useful for mixed groups: some can remain near urban convenience while others seek a longer walk and more natural surroundings.

The Setting

About

Platja de l'Arenal is the largest beach at L'Hospitalet de l'Infant, extending south from the marina along a broad line of fine golden sand. Its northern half is urban and service-oriented, while the southern half becomes progressively quieter beside dunes, wet ground and Mediterranean pine vegetation.

The Local Anchor

L'Hospitalet de l'Infant is named after the fortified hospital founded in the fourteenth century by the Infante Pere. Parts of the Gothic complex survive in the town, providing a strong historical counterpoint to the modern marina and holiday shoreline.

The port separates L'Arenal from Punta del Riu and remains the clearest landmark at the northern end. It brings sailing, harbour walks and restaurants close to the sand, while the old hospital lies farther inland. Together they explain the town's dual identity as a historic stopping place and a present-day maritime centre.

The Landscape

L'Arenal runs for about 1.8 kilometres, making it the municipality's longest main beach. Fine sand and a broad waterline dominate, with a promenade beside the developed northern section and fewer buildings towards the south.

The natural end includes dune vegetation, pine woodland and a small wetland area with rushes. These habitats should be crossed only by recognised paths so that beach access does not erode the landscape. The beach's most memorable quality is this gradual transition: marina and town at one end, open sand and a greener coastal edge at the other.
