About Playa As Patinas
The beach has a quiet, local rhythm. Its 300-metre stretch gives visitors room for walking, family bathing and an unhurried stay without the intensity of a resort promenade. The water usually appears gentler than on Galicia's Atlantic-facing beaches, although tide, wind and local boat movement still influence conditions.
As Branas suits people who enjoy a lived-in ria landscape rather than dramatic surf. The shore remains connected to nearby homes, paths and everyday activity, yet the broad water view gives it enough openness to feel separate from town.

The Setting
As Branas is a sheltered beach near Vilanova de Arousa, on the eastern side of the Ria de Arousa. Fine golden sand follows a mostly straight shoreline in a semiurban setting, with the town close by and calm estuary scenery extending towards Illa de Arousa. It offers more length than many neighbouring coves.
Vilanova de Arousa is the natural anchor. The town is associated with fishing, shellfish cultivation and the writer Ramon del Valle-Inclan, whose birthplace and literary connections form part of the local cultural identity. The waterfront and harbour provide food, services and a clearer view of the municipality's maritime life.
The Route of the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla passes through the wider area, linking Vilanova with the pilgrimage tradition that follows the estuary towards the Ulla and Santiago.
As Branas extends for roughly 300 metres and has fine sand in a protected position. Its mostly straight line contrasts with the small half-shell coves common elsewhere around the ria. A semiurban backdrop of vegetation, paths and nearby buildings sits behind the upper beach.
Across the water, Illa de Arousa forms the principal landmark, with mussel rafts and small boats occupying the nearer estuary. Low tide exposes a wider shore and more intertidal texture, while higher water creates a cleaner band of open water close to the sand. The landscape is horizontal and tidal: beach, reflective ria, aquaculture platforms and low island silhouettes layer together without the cliffs or heavy swell of the outer coast.
