About Playa Cabalgada
Castelete suits visitors who prefer an uncomplicated beach with fewer urban distractions. The shore feels open and exposed to local wind compared with the most protected corners of the ria, although it is still far inside the estuary rather than on the outer Atlantic coast.
The atmosphere is generally quiet. People come to sit, walk, watch the tide and enter the water when conditions are suitable. Services are limited, so it is sensible to bring what is needed and treat the beach as a natural stop rather than a fully organised destination.

The Setting
Castelete is an open beach on the Vilanova de Arousa coastline, set south of the town-facing beaches and looking across the Ria de Arousa. Fine sand extends for around 280 metres, giving it more walking room than the smallest local coves while preserving a low-key character.
Vilanova de Arousa is the municipal anchor, with its harbour, market, shellfish culture and literary connection to Ramon Maria del Valle-Inclan. The beach also lies within the wider Sea of Arousa route, a coastal landscape historically crossed by fishing boats, trading craft and pilgrimage traditions.
Nearby shores such as Pasaxe, Con da Mina and O Terron show how quickly this coastline changes between narrow beaches, wooded edges and more developed waterfront sections.
Castelete has fine sand and an open classification, with a shoreline about 280 metres long. Its position gives it a broad view across the ria, where low islands, aquaculture platforms and moving boats break up the water.
The tide reshapes the beach throughout the day. At low water, the intertidal area becomes wider and walking routes extend along the shore; at high water, the sand contracts towards the landward edge. Wind can travel across the open surface of the estuary and make the water choppier than it first appears.
The surrounding coast is not dramatic in height. Instead, the scenery is made of horizontal layers: sand, tidal water, distant land and sky. That simplicity gives Castelete its calm visual identity.
