Playa del Puntal

Puntal is suited to visitors comfortable with a simple cove rather than a broad sandy resort. Local families, anglers and snorkellers use the shore, while the limited space keeps the atmosphere intimate. It can still become busy on calm summer days because access is easier than at some smaller rocky inlets.

The water entry is uneven, and rock continues around the margins. Shoes help with gravel and slippery surfaces, while snorkelling should be limited to settled conditions with good visibility. The cove faces open Mediterranean weather, so flags, notices and common caution remain essential even when the surface appears calm.

Cala del Puntal is one of the best-known coves on Vinaros's southern coast, a small mixed gravel-and-rock beach below a low residential edge. Its compact shape, clear-looking water and distance from the central promenade give it a quieter feel than the town beaches.

The southern coast of Vinaros is formed by a chain of coves between the port and the Aiguadoliva ravine near the boundary with Benicarlo. Puntal is a recognised stopping point within this route, connected by the coastal road to Pinets, Fondo de Bola and other small beaches.

Farther inland, Vinaros's Serra del Puig natural area contains the Sanctuary of Misericordia and an Iberian archaeological site. These landmarks are not beside the cove, but they provide a broader sense of the municipality's landscape beyond the seafront.

A narrow shore of gravel, coarse sand and low rock opens towards a wide sea horizon. Houses and gardens occupy the land behind it, so the cove feels secluded rather than wild. Vegetation softens parts of the residential backdrop.

The rocky sides create the strongest visual interest and make the water appear especially clear in settled weather. Puntal's character comes from contrast: a small, textured shoreline within easy reach of town, yet without the promenade, beach games and continuous services of central Vinaros. It rewards visitors who arrive prepared for stones, sun and a more natural water entry.
