About Playa del Nord
The atmosphere is quiet and unhurried. Visitors come for space, shore fishing, sea views and long pauses beside the water rather than for a full programme of resort entertainment. Even in summer, the beach can feel noticeably calmer than the central bathing areas, especially away from the principal access points.
This is not the softest shoreline for bare feet. Pebbles dominate much of the beach, and the open sea can create a steeper water entry or stronger wave action after windy weather. Swimmers should assess conditions carefully, use footwear if helpful and avoid treating low visitor numbers as evidence that the water is always easy.

The Setting
Mar Xica is Benicarlo's northern beach, an open stretch of rounded stones and gravel beyond the main port and urban waterfront. It offers a more natural, lightly used alternative to Morrongo, with fewer buildings pressing close to the shore and a stronger sense of the exposed northern coastline.
The fishing and leisure port marks the transition back towards central Benicarlo. Its working boats, fish-market activity and marina give the town a strong maritime identity, while the old streets, market and restaurants sit a short distance inland.
At the northern end, the Rambla de Cervera and the less developed coastal edge separate Mar Xica from the compact town beaches. This position explains its character: it belongs to Benicarlo, but it feels like the place where the urban frontage begins to loosen into a more open shore.
Mar Xica is long, low and exposed, with a surface of smooth stones that changes colour as waves wet the shore. The absence of a broad sandy platform keeps the waterline visually close to the land, while the open horizon dominates the view.
Vegetation and low coastal ground appear behind less developed sections, and there are no high cliffs to create shelter. The beach's appeal lies in its simplicity: stone, sea, sky and the distant outline of the port. It is a place for visitors comfortable with a firmer shoreline and a more elemental Mediterranean setting than the nearby urban cove.
