About Playa de la Romana

The Vibe

The beach has a balanced atmosphere, active enough for families and sport but calmer than the centre of Carregador. Fine sand, generally gentle-looking water and organised access make it approachable for a long day, while the width of the strand gives groups room beyond the busiest entrances.

No beach is permanently safe, and flags should govern swimming even when the sea appears quiet. The raised walkways are part of the experience rather than shortcuts to leave, guiding people across and around the dunes while protecting plants from trampling. Children's and sports areas bring energy without defining the entire beach.

The Setting

About

Playa de la Romana is a fine-sand beach south of Carregador, recognised for its protected dune system and broad family-friendly layout. An elevated walkway, accessible routes and a full range of carefully planned seasonal services allow visitors to enjoy the shore without crossing the most sensitive vegetation.

The Local Anchor

La Romana lies between Punta del Carregador and Playa del Moro, forming part of Alcossebre's continuous southern beach district. Tourist services, accommodation and local transport sit close by, but the dune belt prevents the rear of the beach from feeling like a simple line of buildings.

The inland municipality is Alcala de Xivert, whose castle and historic centre provide a cultural counterpoint to the modern coast. For daily use, however, Alcossebre remains the practical anchor, with restaurants, shops and the marina all reachable within the wider resort area.

The Landscape

Soft golden sand extends for roughly half a kilometre, backed by dunes of recognised ecological value. The elevated platform offers views across this low landscape and helps keep visitors on a defined route rather than dispersing through the plants.

Northward, the beach approaches Carregador; southward, rocky points and the smaller Playa del Moro change the coastline's shape. La Romana is memorable because nature remains visible within a serviced setting. Its dunes, broad sand and organised access show how a popular urban beach can retain a strong environmental identity.
