Playa de Les Fonts

The beach is family-oriented and lively, with restaurants, accommodation and harbour activity close to the sand. Visitors come not only to swim but also to find the cooler freshwater outlets, which can be felt where the underground aquifer reaches the coast. Children often notice the temperature contrast before adults do.

The springs do not make the whole bay uniformly calm or shallow. Flags, lifeguard guidance and marked nautical areas remain important, especially with the marina beside the beach. Seasonal rentals and play areas add activity, while the promenade supports an easy transition from beach time to an evening meal.

Playa de las Fuentes, also known as Les Fonts, is an urban sandy beach immediately north of Alcossebre's marina. Freshwater springs emerging through the seabed and shore distinguish it from every other beach in the municipality and give the area its name.

Puerto Deportivo Las Fuentes is the immediate landmark. The marina has nearly 300 moorings and supports sailing, fishing, restaurants and waterfront leisure, creating a strong nautical identity at the southern edge of the beach.

The freshwater system provides the deeper local story. Water from an old underground aquifer rises near the sea and appears as springs through fine sand, an unusual geological feature that shaped the name Les Fonts. Farther inland, the Santa Lucia and Sant Benet chapel offers a high viewpoint across Alcossebre and the Mediterranean.

Fine sand forms a broad urban beach, with low buildings and a promenade behind and marina masts closing the southern view. The springs create subtle ripples and cooler patches rather than a dramatic river, so the feature is discovered at close range.

Northward, the shore leads towards Cala Blanca and the less developed coves beyond; southward, the harbour separates Les Fonts from central Alcossebre. The landscape combines three elements within a compact area: sandy bathing beach, freshwater geology and an active marina. That mixture makes Les Fonts one of the coast's most distinctive and easily understood locations.
