About Playa ses Salines
The beach feels quiet, open and understated. Walkers, local residents and visitors seeking an uncrowded shoreline use its length, while the narrow band of sand discourages the dense rows of umbrellas seen at larger resorts. It suits paddling, shoreline exercise and an unhurried view across the bay. Birdlife and passing sailing craft often provide the day's main points of movement.
Inner-bay water may look protected, but wind funnels across Fornells and can push chop along the shore. Seagrass and fine natural material often gather in sheltered sections, reflecting the bay's ecology rather than poor maintenance. Soft seabed patches and occasional stones make a measured first entry more sensible than running straight into unfamiliar shallows.

The Setting
Platja Gran is a long, narrow shore inside the wider Bay of Fornells, south of the village and close to the Ses Salines area. Its darker sand, calm-looking inner-bay water and lightly developed setting create a very different experience from Menorca's compact white-sand coves.
Fornells is the essential reference point. The fishing village is known for its waterfront, sailing activity and caldereta de langosta, while the defensive Torre de Fornells overlooks the harbour entrance farther north.
Ses Salines lies nearby and connects the beach with the bay's history of salt-related landscapes and sheltered maritime use. The area also provides access towards Cala Tirant and the Cami de Cavalls, placing Platja Gran between inner-harbour life and the exposed north coast.
The shoreline follows the broad geometry of the bay rather than forming a separate enclosed cala. Low vegetation, scattered development and open ground sit behind darker sand, while boats and the opposite shore provide depth to the view.
There are no dramatic cliffs at the water's edge. Platja Gran's appeal is horizontal: a long strip of land, muted colours and changing reflections across protected water. It offers a contemplative alternative to the busier beaches, especially for visitors interested in Fornells Bay as a complete landscape rather than only a swimming destination.
