Playa de Malkorbe

This is a compact, convenient beach with a relaxed family rhythm. Swimmers, paddlers and people learning water sports use the bay, while harbour activity remains visible at the edge of the view. The sand is easy to combine with lunch, a walk through Getaria or an evening beside the port.

Malkorbe usually feels less exposed than many Basque beaches, but visitors should still watch wind, tide and boat traffic. Its appeal is not wild isolation; it is the comfort of a small beach closely integrated with a working coastal town.

Malkorbe is Getaria's sheltered town beach, tucked beside the fishing port and below the green slopes of Mount San Anton. Its protected position and calm-looking water make it the gentler counterpart to Gaztetape on the outer side of the headland, with the old town only a short walk away.

Getaria's fishing harbour is the immediate anchor. Boats, quays and seafood restaurants give the waterfront a practical maritime identity, while the medieval streets rise behind the port. The town is closely associated with grilled fish and with txakoli produced on the surrounding green slopes.

Mount San Anton, known for its mouse-like profile when seen from a distance, shelters the western side of the bay and provides one of Getaria's best walks. The Balenciaga Museum adds another distinctive cultural reason to remain in town after the beach.

Malkorbe occupies a small bay between the harbour and the base of San Anton. The sand faces a relatively enclosed stretch of water, with port structures to one side and the wooded headland to the other. Across the bay, Getaria's roofs and church tower remain part of the scene.

Tide alters the width of the strand but does not remove its compact, contained character. The water may be calmer than at Gaztetape, yet gusts can funnel around the headland and create short chop. From the sand, the contrast between sheltered beach, busy harbour and steep green slopes explains Getaria's appeal: everything is close, but each part of the waterfront has its own mood.
