About Playa de Calas de Aguamarina

The Vibe

Aguamarina is quieter and more exploratory than Orihuela's largest beaches. Visitors move between short sandy pockets, rock platforms and the coastal path, choosing a place according to the sea conditions and available space. It suits walkers and confident swimmers in calm weather more than anyone expecting one continuous, uniformly sandy resort beach.

The rocky character asks for suitable footwear and careful entry. Waves can break unevenly over submerged shelves, and snorkelling should only be considered when visibility and sea state are favourable. The flatter sandy section offers an easier approach, but flags and local guidance remain important.

The Setting

About

Calas de Aguamarina is a varied coastal sector between Cabo Roig and Campoamor, combining small sandy areas, rocky shoreline and a protected strip of Mediterranean vegetation. The registered bathing area is broader than a single tiny cove and includes both intimate rocky pockets and more open sandy sections.

The Local Anchor

The most distinctive feature is the fossil beach, where traces of marine molluscs record a shoreline more than 125,000 years old. Nearby lies a protected flora microreserve containing valuable Mediterranean plants, including the jarilla cabeza de gato, a species that has disappeared from much of Spain's eastern coast.

A green coastal corridor and promenade connect Aguamarina with Campoamor and Cabo Roig. These routes allow visitors to appreciate the fossil and botanical interest without leaving marked paths or damaging the fragile vegetation.

The Landscape

The shoreline alternates between golden sand, low reddish rock and small coves shaped by erosion. Residential development rises behind parts of the coast, but protected vegetation breaks the urban edge and preserves a more natural foreground.

Aguamarina's value lies in variety rather than scale. Within a relatively short walk, the view shifts from sandy bathing space to fossil rock and planted headland. The sea remains open and bright, while the coastal path ties together geology, flora and everyday beach use. It is a place where the environmental story is as important as the opportunity to swim.
