Playa de Higuericas

The beach suits families, walkers and space-seeking visitors. Summer brings steady use, but quieter sections remain beyond the busiest entrances. Early morning is especially good for walking beside the water, while later hours attract beach games, swimming and longer family stays.

This is an exposed shore rather than a sheltered inlet. Wind and waves can alter the water quickly, and submerged rock may be present in places, so swimmers should follow flags and enter cautiously. The sand offers little dependable shade, making water, sun protection and suitable footwear for the approaches sensible parts of a full-day visit.

Playa de las Higuericas is a long sandy beach on the southern side of Pilar de la Horadada's coast, between Las Villas and El Mojon. Its generous width, low dune vegetation and open Mediterranean frontage give it a more natural appearance than the compact urban coves around Torre de la Horadada.

The nearest recognised landmark is the Torre de la Horadada watchtower, farther north along the coast. Built in the late sixteenth century as part of a defensive network, it now overlooks a peaceful seaside settlement and marina rather than the raiding routes it was designed to monitor.

Las Higuericas also belongs to a coastline shaped by seasonal residents and long-standing family holidays. Pilar de la Horadada's inland centre provides municipal services, while the coastal neighbourhoods supply restaurants and everyday shopping. The beach is distinct from Las Villas even though the two sandy stretches meet within the same broad coastal landscape.

A pale strand runs beside patches of dune vegetation and low coastal development. Wooden access routes and paths help visitors reach the water without cutting directly across the most sensitive planted areas, and the flat setting keeps the horizon open in every direction.

The southern view leads towards El Mojon and the boundary with Murcia, where the landscape gradually approaches the salt flats of San Pedro del Pinatar. To the north, the beach gives way to Las Villas and the built-up shore around Torre de la Horadada. Its character comes from scale, light and the contrast between fine sand, low dunes and a broad blue sea.
