Playa el Mojon

The mood is simple and residential. Local walkers, anglers and summer visitors share a beach that can change noticeably in width after storms or seasonal movement of sand. It is less commercially intense than Mil Palmeras and feels connected to the neighbouring settlement rather than organised around a large promenade.

The beach faces open Mediterranean conditions, so waves and currents should be judged carefully. Natural seaweed may collect along parts of the strand and forms part of the coastal system rather than automatically indicating neglect. Visitors should follow flags, avoid fishing lines and respect any temporary access restrictions after rough weather.

Playa El Mojon is Pilar de la Horadada's southernmost beach, occupying the Alicante side of a continuous shoreline that crosses into San Pedro del Pinatar in Murcia. Golden sand, a low seafront and proximity to protected salt-lagoon landscapes give it a borderland character unlike the municipality's larger resort beaches.

The municipal and regional boundary is the defining feature. Northward lies the Pilar de la Horadada coast; immediately south begins San Pedro del Pinatar, where another El Mojon beach continues the same visual shoreline under a different administration.

Beyond the Murcia side are the salt flats, dunes and wetlands of the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro regional park. That protected landscape is not directly on every part of this beach, but it shapes the wider southern view and brings birdlife, flat horizons and a stronger natural context to the area.

El Mojon is a low, open beach with golden sand, modest urban development and no cliffs to enclose the horizon. A small seafront walk and residential streets sit behind the shore, while the coastline remains physically continuous across the provincial boundary.

The beach's interest comes from transition rather than spectacle: Alicante becoming Murcia, urban frontage giving way towards salt flats, and a narrow local shore opening onto the Mediterranean. It is best understood as the end of one coastal municipality and the beginning of another, even though the sand itself shows no obvious border.
