About Playa de la Rubina
The beach attracts walkers, dog owners in the designated area, kitesurfers and visitors seeking more space and fewer buildings. It feels informal and exposed, with wind and natural beach material forming part of the experience rather than being removed to create a polished resort appearance. Shade is limited, so visitors should bring suitable protection.
La Rubina is not automatically calm. The Bay of Roses is well known for tramuntana and sea breezes, and conditions can change quickly. Water-sports zones, dog areas and swimming sections should be respected so different users can share the beach safely.

The Setting
La Rubina is a natural beach between Empuriabrava and Santa Margarida, within the Aiguamolls de l'Emporda protected landscape. Sand, dunes, shallow wetlands and open sky give it a markedly wilder character than the neighbouring marina resorts.
The Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Emporda is the essential anchor. Its lagoons, reed beds and migration habitats support a rich variety of birds. Marked access routes and protected dune areas should be followed carefully to avoid damaging the vegetation.
Empuriabrava lies immediately south, with its canal network and marina services. Roses and Santa Margarida are to the north, offering another large resort centre. La Rubina provides the natural pause between these developed waterfronts.
Golden sand extends along a low, open coast backed by dunes, hollows and lagoon systems. There are no cliffs or dense buildings to interrupt the horizon, making wind, cloud and changing light especially noticeable.
The beach lies between marina entrances and close to wetland channels. After rain, freshwater and natural debris may influence sections of the shoreline. Visitors should use established paths rather than crossing regenerating dunes.
La Rubina's appeal is its lack of urban enclosure. It offers a direct view of the flat Emporda coast, where mountains rise in the distance and the beach blends into marshland. The experience is best for those comfortable with wind, fewer formal comforts and a landscape managed primarily for nature.
