About Playa de Sant Feliu

The Vibe

The atmosphere is active and rooted in town life. Families, swimmers, sailors and promenade walkers share the bay, while cafes, gardens and shops sit only steps away. Summer events add energy, but the beach remains part of daily life throughout the year rather than functioning only as a holiday resort.

The harbour provides some protection, although the bay is still open to easterly weather and changing wind. Bathers should follow flags and remain clear of boating areas. The beach is spacious enough for a full day, while its central location also makes a short morning or evening visit easy.

The Setting

About

Sant Feliu beach fills the town's main bay between the fishing harbour and the rocky headland below Sant Elm. Coarse golden sand, a broad promenade and immediate access to the historic centre make it the municipality's principal urban beach.

The Local Anchor

The Benedictine monastery complex is the major historical anchor, with the Porta Ferrada forming the best-known surviving feature. The site now supports cultural activity and gives the town a strong identity beyond its waterfront.

The fishing harbour, marina and market continue Sant Feliu's maritime traditions. Above the southern side of the bay, Sant Elm offers a viewpoint associated with the early naming and image of the Costa Brava.

The Landscape

The beach forms a wide urban crescent framed by harbour structures on one side and rocky slopes on the other. The promenade, Juli Garreta gardens and town buildings create a developed backdrop, while the open bay remains dominant from the waterline.

Coarse sand and a sloping seabed reflect the energetic coast beyond the harbour. Boats move through the wider bay, and the sea can change quickly under easterly swell.

Sant Feliu beach works because it brings the whole town to the shore. Monastery, harbour, gardens and old streets are all close enough to combine with swimming, while the headlands preserve a clear natural frame. It is a civic waterfront first and a resort beach second, with character in every season.
