Playa Cala Rovira

The cove is relaxed but rarely secret. Families, swimmers and visitors following the Cami de Ronda gather here in summer, and the limited size means the beach can feel busy around midday. Early morning and late afternoon offer a quieter atmosphere. The cove is also convenient for a shorter swim before returning to the town.

The water may look sheltered, yet waves and a steepening seabed can create challenging conditions. Rocky edges are attractive for snorkelling only when the sea is settled. Bathers should follow flags and avoid swimming close to rocks during swell.

Cala Rovira lies immediately north of Platja d'Aro's main beach, forming a sandy cove between low rocky headlands. Coarse golden sand, pine-covered edges and easy walking access make it a popular alternative to the larger urban strand nearby.

Platja d'Aro is the immediate anchor, with shops, accommodation, restaurants and a long central beach just south of the cove. The town provides every practical service while Cala Rovira offers a more enclosed coastal setting within walking distance.

The Cami de Ronda continues north towards Cala Sa Cova, Cala del Pi and other small inlets. This route is the best way to experience the contrast between the developed resort and the rocky, pine-framed coast that begins almost immediately beyond it.

The cove is a little over 200 metres long, with coarse sand and rocky platforms at both ends. Low cliffs and vegetation frame the beach, while buildings remain visible above parts of the shoreline.

Looking south, the coast opens towards Platja d'Aro's broad bay. Northward, the path climbs across rock and reveals a succession of coves separated by headlands. The seabed mixes sand and stone near the edges.

Cala Rovira is well suited to visitors who want cove scenery without remote access. Its character depends on that balance: close to a major resort, yet shaped by rock, pine and a coastal path that quickly leads into a more intimate Costa Brava landscape.
