Playa Tamarit

Tamarit feels spacious and energetic. Families use the main bathing sections, walkers follow the broad shore and wind-dependent sports can become part of the scene when conditions and local zoning allow. The beach's length makes it possible to find quieter space away from principal entrances, even though summer use is substantial.

The open bay can change quickly with wind, so swimmers should respect flags, marked activity areas and any separation between bathing and sport zones. The sand offers little natural shade, and the nearby salt landscape can make the midday heat feel especially exposed. Early morning and late afternoon are more comfortable for walking.

Playa del Tamarit is Santa Pola's westernmost main urban beach, lying beside the protected salt-flat landscape of the Salinas de Santa Pola. Dark-golden sand, a long open frontage and regular coastal breezes give it a different character from the more enclosed beaches near the harbour.

The Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park is the defining local feature. Salt production, shallow lagoons and wetlands support an important bird habitat, with flamingos and other waterbirds often associated with the wider landscape. The protected area should be viewed from recognised routes rather than crossed from the beach.

A historic salt-loading pier stands offshore as a reminder of the industry that shaped this coast. Its remains form a distinctive silhouette from the sand and connect the present leisure beach with Santa Pola's long relationship with salt extraction and maritime transport.

Tamarit forms a long, level strand backed by low development and the flat expanse of the salinas. The horizon is broad in every direction, with no cliff or cape enclosing the beach. Dark sand, shallow-looking water and the remains of the salt pier are the main visual elements.

The beach marks a transition from urban Santa Pola to wetland coast. Reeds, lagoons and salt mountains appear beyond the built edge, while the Mediterranean remains open to the south. Tamarit's identity comes from this meeting of recreation, wind and working landscape, making it one of Santa Pola's most recognisable western beaches.
