About Playa Areas

The Vibe

The beach has a lively family atmosphere in summer, with enough space for swimming, games and long periods on the sand. It feels more natural than Silgar because the town is not pressed directly against the shore, yet restaurants, accommodation and access remain close.

Areas faces a wider part of the ria, so wind can be more noticeable than at smaller sheltered coves. On calm days the beach suits swimming and paddle sports; when conditions change, visitors should follow flags and lifeguard guidance.

The Setting

About

Areas is a broad fine-sand beach east of Sanxenxo town, set at the mouth of the Dorron valley on the Ria de Pontevedra. Its open shoreline, wooded headlands and established visitor facilities make it one of the municipality's most complete beaches without placing it inside the main urban centre.

The Local Anchor

The Dorron valley provides the inland anchor. A walking route follows the river from the beach through woodland towards old mills, fountains, churches and traditional houses, offering a clear contrast with the busy summer shore.

A wooden coastal path also leads towards Festinanzos Point. From that side of the beach, the Ria de Pontevedra reaches one of its widest sections, with Bueu and the Morrazo coast visible opposite. Sanxenxo town lies only a short journey west.

The Landscape

Areas is about 350 metres long and has fine sand on an open section of the ria. Low rocky points frame the beach, while trees and developed slopes rise behind it without creating a continuous urban wall.

The broad water view gives Areas its scale. The opposite shore appears distant, and boats moving between Sanxenxo, Marin and the outer ria cross a large open horizon. At low tide the beach gains width and a longer walking line; higher water brings the sea closer to the back of the sand.

The landscape is balanced rather than wild. Natural headlands, river vegetation and open water remain prominent, but visitor services are close enough for an easy day. Areas works particularly well for people who want a substantial beach with access to both coastal and inland walks.
