About Playa del Postiguet
Postiguet is lively, urban and unmistakably local. Morning swimmers share the water with residents exercising along the promenade, while families, students and visitors fill the sand later in the day. The beach works well for a short visit between city plans, but it is also large enough for a full day when the weather is settled.
The shore normally has a gentle appearance, yet flags and lifeguard instructions should always guide swimming. Boats use the nearby harbour approaches, and marked zones must be respected. Natural shade is limited on the open sand, so sun protection matters even when a sea breeze makes the temperature feel comfortable.

The Setting
Playa del Postiguet is Alicante's central city beach, a broad strip of fine sand below Mount Benacantil and Santa Barbara Castle. Its position beside the old town, marina approaches and Paseo de Gomiz makes it the easiest place to combine sightseeing with time beside the Mediterranean.
Santa Barbara Castle is the defining landmark, rising directly above the beach on Mount Benacantil. An entrance to the castle lift is reached from the seafront, while walking routes connect the lower city with the fortress and the Santa Cruz quarter.
A few minutes west are the Explanada de Espana, the marina and the historic centre around the Basilica of Santa Maria and Alicante's museums. Postiguet therefore belongs to the everyday centre of Alicante rather than a separate resort district, with restaurants, transport and shops close behind the waterfront.
The beach forms a pale arc between the harbour side and the rocky base of Benacantil. A promenade follows the rear of the sand, with palms, city buildings and the castle creating a layered urban backdrop.
The view is open across Alicante Bay, while the headland and port structures give the beach a clear sense of enclosure at either end. Postiguet's character comes from contrast: soft sand and blue water in front, then railway, roads, old streets and a fortress climbing sharply behind.
