Playa del Racn

Raco feels more spacious and open than Begur's smaller enclosed bays. Families and couples use the beach, while walkers pass through on the route towards Illa Roja and Sa Riera. The atmosphere is relaxed, with enough room for sunbathing and a longer shoreline walk.

Because it faces northeast and connects visually with the broad Pals coast, wind and wave conditions can be more noticeable than in Sa Tuna or Aiguablava. Swimmers should judge the water carefully and follow any seasonal flags. The beach becomes especially pleasant outside peak hours, when the open horizon dominates.

Platja del Raco is the northernmost beach in Begur municipality, beside the boundary with Pals and the long sands of Platja de Pals. Its broad open outlook, reddish-golden sand and direct access to the coastal path make it a useful starting point for exploring Begur's northern coves.

Begur's hilltop town lies inland, crowned by the ruins of its medieval castle. Stone streets, Indiano houses and restaurants provide the cultural anchor for all the municipality's beaches, although the steep road makes the coast feel separate.

The nearby Pals shoreline and the coastal path shape Raco's immediate identity. Walking south leads to the red rock of Illa Roja and then to Sa Riera, allowing three contrasting beaches to be visited in one route.

Raco is approximately 85 metres long and unusually broad, with garnet-coloured sand and a natural backdrop of low slopes and coastal development. The beach opens directly towards the Mediterranean rather than sitting deep inside a cove.

The headland towards Illa Roja gives the southern view more drama, while the northern side merges into the vast Platja de Pals landscape. Pine-covered hills rise behind the coast.

The beach's appeal comes from transition. It is where the long open shore of Pals begins to break into the rocky coves of Begur. That combination of space, walking access and changing geology gives Raco a distinctive role within the Costa Brava coastline.
