About Playa es Llann Gran

The Vibe

The two sections have different personalities. Llane Gran provides more room for swimming and settling on the shore, while Llane Petit is smaller and often occupied by boats pulled onto the beach. Both feel quieter than Platja Gran, although their proximity to the centre means they remain popular in summer.

The mixed surface is less comfortable than fine sand, so a thicker mat or beach shoes can help. Wind can strengthen suddenly around Cap de Creus, and moderate waves are possible despite the bay setting. Visitors should keep clear of boats and marked channels.

The Setting

About

Es Llane Gran and Es Llane Petit form two adjoining beaches on the southern side of Cadaques bay. Together they extend for around 150 metres and combine coarse dark sand, pebbles, small boats and a clear view back towards the white village and the Church of Santa Maria.

The Local Anchor

The walk from central Cadaques is part of the experience. Following the waterfront south reveals old houses, small jetties and changing views across the bay. The church tower remains the main visual reference, rising above the village's compact white roofs.

A distinctive early twentieth-century house with a tower stands near Llane Petit and contributes to the beach's postcard appearance. Cadaques's artistic history is present throughout the area, but the working details of boats, slipways and weathered stone prevent the shoreline from feeling like a stage set.

The Landscape

The beaches sit beneath a settled residential coast rather than dramatic cliffs. Rock divides the two sections, and the seabed alternates between gravel, sand and stone. Clear water can make the underwater texture easy to see in calm conditions.

Looking north, the whole curve of Cadaques opens across the bay. The landscape is especially attractive in the morning or late afternoon, when light reaches the white buildings at an angle and the water reflects the village.

Es Llane is ideal for visitors who want a quieter swim within walking distance of the centre. Its value lies in the view, local boat culture and close relationship with Cadaques, not in extensive sand or resort facilities.
