Playa de la Calalga

Calalga suits visitors who want to remain close to apartments and services while avoiding the scale of La Fossa. The cove is only around one hundred metres long, and its narrow shore can feel busy when families and regular swimmers gather near the ramped access.

Sand, pebbles and exposed rock create a less uniform surface than the neighbouring main beach. Posidonia leaves may accumulate naturally on the rocks and shore, showing the presence of seagrass habitat offshore. Swimming and snorkelling are best considered only after checking flags, wave movement and the slippery margins. The ramped approach is convenient, but the uneven shore still requires particular extra care from anyone with limited balance.

Cala Calalga is a small mixed sand-and-pebble cove at the northern end of Calp's La Fossa promenade. It provides a quieter transition between the large urban beach and the rocky Benissa coastline beyond.

Calalga Park and the end of the La Fossa promenade provide the immediate reference points. From here, visitors can walk south towards the Penon de Ifach or follow coastal routes north in the direction of Les Bassetes and Benissa.

The cove belongs to Calp and should not be confused with Benissa's Cala Fustera, which lies farther along the coast. Shops and restaurants are concentrated around La Fossa, allowing Calalga to remain visually quieter while everyday needs stay close.

The beach occupies a shallow indentation beneath low residential development and coastal vegetation. Fine sand appears in places, but pebbles, rock and seagrass material give the shore a more natural texture than the broad, groomed strand next door.

Views south are dominated by the northern face of the Penon de Ifach, while the opposite direction opens towards the smaller coves of Benissa. Calalga's appeal lies in this threshold position. It is neither a remote inlet nor a major resort beach, but a compact coastal pocket where urban convenience gives way to the rockier character of the Marina Alta shoreline.
