Playa del Raco de Calp

Raco is quieter than La Fossa or Arenal-Bol but not isolated. Divers, snorkellers, walkers and local swimmers share a shore only about seventy metres long, so summer space can disappear quickly. Pebbles make beach shoes useful, and there is little soft ground for traditional sand-based beach games.

The cove is known for calm-looking water, yet harbour activity, swell and marked zones still require attention. An underwater route uses buoys and information panels during the main season to introduce marine plants and animals. It is educational rather than a substitute for safe swimming judgement or appropriate diving experience.

Cala El Raco is a small gravel cove at the foot of the Penon de Ifach, enclosed on one side by the northern wall of Calp's fishing port. Its clear water, underwater trail and direct link with the rock's coastal promenade give it a strong identity despite its modest size.

The Penon de Ifach is the dominant landmark, rising immediately above the cove and separating Calp's two principal sandy bays. The fishing port and old fish-market area sit close by, keeping Raco connected with the town's working maritime life.

The Paseo Ecologico Princesa de Asturias begins at the cove and follows the seaward base of the rock. This level walk opens broad views across the Mediterranean and is a natural extension of a short beach visit. The trail does not continue around the entire Penon, so visitors return by the same route.

White and grey pebbles form a narrow shore beneath the massive limestone face. The port wall creates a built boundary to the south, while the Penon and open sea provide the natural frame to the north and east.

This combination is unusually concentrated: fishing boats and harbour structures nearby, a protected natural park overhead and marine habitat directly below the surface. Cala El Raco is less about sunbathing space than access to Calp's defining landscape. From the waterline, the scale of the Penon becomes especially clear, making the cove one of the town's most memorable small coastal places.
