About Playa de l' Arenal

The Vibe

This is Xabia's most animated beach district. Families fill the sand, water activities operate from marked areas and the promenade remains active from breakfast through late evening. The shallow entry is attractive to cautious swimmers, but high summer brings dense use and a very different mood from the small gravel coves elsewhere on the coast.

Flags and lifeguard guidance remain essential, particularly when wind crosses the bay or boats use the nearby canal. Swimmers should stay clear of navigation routes and avoid assuming that shallow water removes all risk. Early morning provides the quietest window for walking, while dusk shifts attention from the beach to the restaurants and terraces.

The Setting

About

El Arenal is Xabia's principal sandy beach, set in the centre of the broad bay between Punta del Arenal and Punta del Castell. Around 480 metres of coarse sand and generally shallow water support the town's busiest concentration of family beach life, restaurants and evening entertainment.

The Local Anchor

At the northern end, Punta del Arenal contains remains associated with a Roman trading and fish-processing settlement, including the excavated basin commonly called the Banos de la Reina. The Parador occupies the point today, making this one of the clearest places where modern tourism and ancient coastal use overlap.

Punta del Castell closes the southern side and provides a viewpoint across the bay. A canal beside the beach allows small boats to reach the sea, reinforcing the need to distinguish bathing water from navigation space. Xabia's port and old town lie elsewhere, giving Arenal its own self-contained centre.

The Landscape

A broad crescent of sand sits between two low rocky points, with Montgo rising in the wider background. The promenade and apartment district form a continuous urban edge, but the bay's open shape preserves long views across the water and towards Cap de Sant Antoni.

El Arenal is Xabia's only main sandy beach, which explains both its popularity and its distinctive appearance within a largely rocky municipality. The landscape is resort-oriented rather than secluded: palms, terraces, beach sport and shallow water organised around a compact bay whose natural boundaries remain clearly visible.
