Playa de la Grava

The beach feels polished but not formal, with residents, walkers and visitors sharing the promenade throughout the day. Swimming and sunbathing take place close to cafes, hotels and the port, while evening light brings a quieter social mood along the water. Pebbles make beach shoes and a thicker mat more useful than they would be on sand.

The bay can look protected, yet boat traffic, wind and changing conditions still require attention. Swimmers should remain inside buoyed areas and follow local flags. The shore shelves through gravel and stones, so entry can feel less stable than El Arenal's shallow sandy edge, particularly for small children or anyone with limited mobility.

La Grava is Xabia's urban gravel beach in the port district of Duanes de la Mar, immediately beside the waterfront promenade. Its pebble shore, harbour activity and year-round restaurants give it a more maritime and local character than the sandy resort atmosphere of El Arenal.

Duanes de la Mar grew around Xabia's port and remains the defining neighbourhood. Fishing, leisure craft and waterfront restaurants keep the maritime economy visible, while the unusual modern church of Nuestra Senora de Loreto stands a short walk inland with a roof form inspired by a ship's hull.

The promenade links La Grava with the harbour and the rocky Primer Muntanyar coast towards El Arenal. Xabia's historic old town lies farther inland, so this beach belongs to the port quarter rather than the medieval centre. Its local life continues outside the peak holiday season.

La Grava extends for roughly three hundred metres along rounded gravel and pebbles. Palm-lined paving and low urban buildings form the rear edge, while port walls and boats shape one end of the view. Across the bay, Montgo and Cap de Sant Antoni provide the larger landscape context.

The shore is not dramatic in isolation, but its position makes it visually rich. Pebbles brighten beneath clear water, masts add vertical detail and the promenade keeps the beach connected to Xabia's everyday rhythm. It is best understood as a harbour-side Mediterranean beach, not a substitute for the town's sandy Arenal.
