Playa de Cala del Moraig

Moraig attracts families, swimmers, divers and visitors drawn by the scenery, so it can be very busy in summer despite its enclosed appearance. The gravel surface and firm water entry make beach shoes useful, while the steep access means the return journey requires more effort than a level urban beach.

The cove faces open Mediterranean conditions and can develop shore break or strong movement. Swimmers should follow flags, lifeguard instructions and any access controls. The cliffs and caves are visually compelling, but unsupported climbing, jumping or entering sea caves in unsuitable conditions creates serious risk.

Cala del Moraig is the main beach of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell, a gravel cove hidden below the Puig Llorenca cliffs. Its dramatic geology, clear-looking water and steep approach make it one of the most striking coastal settings between Moraira and Javea.

Cova dels Arcs is the defining natural landmark, a sea cave and rock formation at the edge of the cove associated with the Moraig fault system. It should be viewed cautiously because waves can surge through the openings even when the beach seems manageable.

El Poble Nou de Benitatxell lies inland above the coast. Summer access arrangements may include controlled parking or a municipal shuttle, so checking the current local information before travelling is important. These measures are intended to reduce traffic pressure on the steep road and protected cliff environment.

The beach extends for roughly three hundred metres beneath high limestone walls. Gravel and pale rock brighten the water, while the Cumbre del Sol development occupies parts of the higher ground without removing the cove's sense of geological enclosure.

Moraig belongs to the protected cliff landscape of the Marina Alta, where ravines, faults and submerged caves shape the coastline. The beach is not a gentle sandy bay; it is a dramatic meeting of mountain and sea. Its appeal depends on respecting that terrain, planning the descent and treating the water with the caution demanded by an exposed gravel cove.
