Playa Raxn

This is an easy, sociable beach for visitors who want the sea close to restaurants, accommodation and a working waterfront. The sheltered ria setting often gives the water a gentler appearance than Galicia's ocean beaches, although wind, tide and boat movement can still alter conditions.

Raxo becomes busiest during warm summer afternoons, when families and local residents gather on the sand and the nearby terraces fill. Outside peak hours it feels calmer, especially in the morning, when fishing boats and small leisure craft provide most of the movement across the view.

Raxo is an urban beach beside the harbour of the same-name coastal village in Poio. Its fine sand faces south across the Ria de Pontevedra, with Marin on the opposite shore and Tambo Island visible farther into the estuary. The beach sits directly within village life rather than behind a resort complex.

Raxo grew from a fishing settlement, and the harbour remains the clearest point of reference. Boats, quay walls and seafood restaurants keep the village connected to the estuary rather than turning it into a purely seasonal destination.

The coastal road links Raxo eastwards with Sinas and westwards with Xiorto, making it possible to see several different beaches in a short area. Combarro lies farther along the Poio coast, while Sanxenxo is reached in the opposite direction.

The beach extends for about 180 metres in an urban setting beside the harbour. Fine sand forms a compact arc, with built waterfront edges at one end and the village rising behind the shore.

Its broad outlook is more expansive than the beach itself. Across the ria, the wooded and settled slopes around Marin create a layered horizon, while Tambo Island gives the centre of the view a strong focal point. At low tide, more sand and intertidal ground appear; higher water reduces the dry area and draws visitors closer to the promenade.

Raxo is best understood as part of the village rather than an isolated natural cove. Its appeal comes from the balance of usable sand, maritime activity and a wide estuary panorama.
