Playa de l'Olla

L'Olla suits visitors who enjoy simple beach routines: walking on the stones, swimming in suitable conditions and watching small boats cross the bay. The shore is long enough for people to spread out, although access points and nearby restaurants naturally attract more activity in summer. Quieter roadside sections retain a strong connection with local coastal life.

Rounded pebbles can be uncomfortable underfoot and may shift where waves break. Water shoes and a stable mat make a visit easier, while swimmers should follow flags and remain alert to craft. The island can appear close, but swimming towards it should never be attempted without considering distance, traffic and sea conditions.

Playa de l'Olla is a long pebble shore on Altea's northern bay, opposite the small island known as Illeta de l'Olla. Traditional beach houses, low development and wide views give it a quieter, more maritime character than La Roda in the centre of town.

Illeta de l'Olla is the defining feature offshore, a low rocky island that gives the beach an unmistakable focus. The area is also associated with the Castell de l'Olla, Altea's summer firework display launched from the sea; dates, access and crowd arrangements should be checked locally each year.

Villa Gadea and the small coves around Cala del Soio lie to the south, while Porto Senso and Solsida are farther north. Altea's old town remains visible across the bay but is separated from this beach by several quieter coastal neighbourhoods.

The beach is formed mainly of pebbles and gravel, backed by vegetation, low houses and sections of coastal road. It lacks a continuous urban promenade, helping the water and island dominate the scene.

Across the bay, Serra Gelada creates a dark southern boundary, while the mountains behind Altea rise inland. The island, anchored boats and textured stone shore give L'Olla a layered but understated landscape. Its appeal comes from open water and local continuity rather than dramatic facilities or a resort-style frontage.
